January 2004 Archives
About (over) a year ago, a fellow browncoat tipped me off to Keen Eddie. I was able to catch about two (very funny) episodes before Fox realized they had another quality show on their hands and quickly cancelled it.
It's about a NY Cop, the Eddie of the title, who works for Scotland Yard in London and has.... singular... experiences there.
Anyway, Bravo has bought it and is airing the pilot tonight @ 9pm Tuesday, and will continue through the full season. I think folks here would find it entertaining: certainly well above the usual network drek.
Allyson Hannigan seems to be heading towards an NBC comedy.
Disconcertingly similar to the May 9th entry for the Upcoming Year for Joss, Mutant Enemy and Friends.
Fresh from her London run, Alyson Hannigan films her pilot ("Aly!") for NBC, a half-hour sitcom about a single girl trying to find love and happiness in New York City. Nicholas Brendon has a cameo as her ex-boyfriend. Joss and Amber Benson applaud from backstage. Charisma Carpenter is spotted in the audience, angrily scarfing down an entire bag of mallomars.
Battle of Serenity, the flash Game. You can download it as well. Try to beat my score of... 0. Woo.
The Brits got to see the whole show in the right order, then find out we cancelled it, and are having a fan convention anyway.
As if other countries need another reason to think we're idiots.
Jackie and Justin are making themselves ham and cheese sandwiches in the other room, singing the Hero of Canton, in unison.
Good to be home.
So I'm messing around with the "no power in the 'verse" quote and trying out various fonts.
Those of you reading the scripts I've linked to off the FireflyWiki - Firefly Episode Guide may want to start over.
I've switched out most of the 'transcript' scripts for copies of the actual shooting scripts. These are generally quite a bit more interesting, as the transcripts themselves are basically copies of what aired (which you can see for your own selves), while the shooting scripts contain many more interesting bits that didn't make it to the screen.
Chris Buchanan (President of Mutant Enemy):
It seems that the DVDs are doing really well (e.g. better than Fox anticipated) and that there have been significant re-orders (an unusual thing for this type of program).
We really appreciate all of the fan efforts on the show's behalf and I am personally helping out on the DVDs to soldiers’ project. So just tell everybody and thanks for all their efforts.
Universal seems to be willing to make the movie (crossing fingers, touching wood, lighting candles), but we still have a few (non-creative) hurdles to cross.
MAL: Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
ZOE: Big damn heroes, sir.
MAL: Ain't we just.
-- Firefly, "Safe"
That's the quote ***Dave requested for the back of his 'green' Firefly t-shirt after watching Safe on Saturday (warning: spoilers, as always, for those who ain't seen it -- and WHY haven't you?)
Just thought I'd let folks know in case that sounds like a good quote for them -- I'm taking requests -- right now, I'm thinking of putting:
"No power in the 'verse can stop me."
On the back of the women's t. :)
So here's a thought:
It's no secret that Joss never really went into the technobabble -- he doesn't bother working out how the ships fly, why inertia doesn't kill the crew when they pull a Crazy Ivan, or write episodes about the 'crystal of the week'.
That's good.
But one of the things that people (okay, geeky people) have been trying to figure out is the 'rules' of the Firefly faster-than-light drive and how that relates to moving between solar systems...
But what if there aren't any systems to move between?
Okay, so I've found the easter egg on the Firefly disk 4 of Adam singing, and he's wearing this cool t-shirt... the same one he's wearing here, except on the DVD you can see it more clearly.
And I wanted it, my Precious.
So I did what any computer geek with an obsession would do... I made my own.
Not willing to stop there, I went further and created a whole bunch of similar things.
So, Here's how it is: I want to contribute to the Firefly DVDs for our Troops Overseas campaign but this is a tight month following the holidays, so I won't be able to do much more than one DVD set.
Unless...
Well, the things in the store are marked up a mere 1 or 2 bucks over cost, but every buck I make before the deadline of January 30th I'm going to send to the Project.
And you get Swag -- there is no loser here.
Thoughts? Requests? You want a specific shirt, but with a Firefly quote on the back? No problem, just let me know and I'll set it up. I am here to serve...
and geek out. There is always that.
Firefly Chinese Pinyinary - a collection of all the Chinese phrases you hear, plus all the chinese characters you see on the show.
Also: Fireflymovie.com, because geeks never learned to give up. (We grew up thinking that sending two hobbits alone into Mordor was a good tactical plan -- it all stems from that.)
Fear the power of determined geeks... fear.
You can sometimes distract people by getting all... bendy.
[Rather an appropriate lesson for New Years.]
